Portugal Trip

(Click on the pics to make them bigger)

Me and Robin went to Lisbon, Portugal last Tuesday for a week to get out of this cold/wet country and to ride with some good people and some good parks in good weather. It was the best week of my life.

We arrived in Lisbon and Daniel Serra picked us up and showed us his local spots and parts of Lisbon. The pool (Cascais Bowl) above was amazing but to wet to ride and next to some crazy abandoned hotel.

Because we couldnt ride that bowl we rode Joao (Kaka) and Daniels local park (Amadora). It was only small but good fun with a neat little bowl and some good flatbanks and rails/ledges. (Obviously Daniel killed the place boosting the hips)

Later that afternoon Daniel drove us to EXPO Park by the famous Lisbon bridge. This place is so good with such a good scenary. The ramps are big and fast and loads of fun. Here we met up with Kaka, Johnny, Ze, Chaparro Nelson and some crazy Brazilian ghetto kids turned up, and one of them was the kid who gets on the back of Garrets bike on the T-1 video. I was star struck. We rode there for ages and had a good time.Kaka was kind enough to let us stay at his house and his parents are super cool and made us such good food.

The next day we headed over the bridge to check out some other pools (Baixa Da Banheira) which are super cool. A few of them were wet but there awesome. We decided to head to a wooden park in the woods (Monsanto) which had a good vibe about it. Mellow riding and nice fresh air in the woods. We met everyone there and rode for a few hours before heading out for my birthday. I had no idea the guys had planned anything for me but they took me out for some freshly made local pizza made by super mario and bourght me a birthday cake which was so cool. They all sang happy birthday to me in Portugese which is a first for me and hopefully not my last. Thanks so much for that guys, i was smiling so much and was so happy.

The next day we (Me, Rob and Kaka) headed towards 31 park (Nunos) and stopped off at a big concrete park (Torres Vedras) We just chilled at this park and cruised around and it was a good mellow ride. We arrived at Nunos place (ive been before) and it was empty so we had the place to ourselves. I love this park and the bowl is awesome. We played around in the bowl and foam pit and had a good ride, I even got to see Nuno ride and Dinis, also some other MTB riders who killed the place.

That night we headed to Jasons park for a little ride with people and to get some food. Jasons Dad made us all loads of food. Loads of meat and chips and salad. He cracked open the champagne and things got wild. Next thing we know Nuno is a mess and Jasons Dad is going off in to another room to get out alcohol for me and Rob that is older than him (50 years +)

It was such a good night we all laughed so hard and talked shit for hours. A big thanks to Jason and his Dad for being so cool and looking after all of us.

We stayed at Paulitos house while we were in Leiria. This place is crazy, its like a huge porno/party bmxer house with trails in the garden.Crazy sex beds and red lights. It was cold in there so we crushed everyone in the same room. There was about 20 people in this house including the guys from Spain.

The next morning we went to the City park (Lieria park) and i loved it. There is something for everyone there. Good hips loads of little street nibbles rails ledges quarters etc. Me Kaka and Rob rode it for a while and Dinis and Nuno turned up to say hello. Dinis was chillin on his MTB doing some cool trucks and 180 barspins while Nuno was trying to not be sick from his hangover haha.

The next day was the ilegal Jam. Alot more people turned up for this. It was cool to see so many people there and lots of people i met in Santa Rai from the last time i ws there. Me Kaka and Rob were all in the same group when we rode which was cool seeing as we had rode together for the last 4 days. it was a good mellow vibe and everyone chilled and had a good day, it sucked to see Daniel Serra crash hard though. That night we went out for a big meal with everyone. Must of been about 30 of us and the restaraunt didnt know what hit it. Food was being thrown about and everyone was drinking. Good times we had. We left the restaraunt and headed to 31 park to go see Miguel Questa get sat in a chair and a stripper do her thing for him and all of us rowdy drunk lads looking from above. The night was funny as everyone carried on drinking and partying and many people didnt sleep (thanks to Kaka haha)

We also rode the ghetto park (Ratos). Loads of the guys turned up for a session and this place is so cool. In an abondened warehouse they built ramps out what they could find and have got a cool set up with hips, spine box etc.

After the Ratos park we headed to to 31 park and it was same as the day before really, me and Rob got in the Finals but didnt ride so good haha.Perico shut the place down. He goes so high and fast its madness. You have to see it.The final results were Perico 1st Pedro Seca 2nd and Rob got 3rd. After prize giving we all said our goodbyes and headed back to Lisbon so we could chill pack and head home. Once again Kakas parents looked after us and fed us. A big thanks goes out to all the guys who helped us. We had such a good time and have memories and friends forever. The Portugal BMX scene is strong and full of of amazing riders who just ride for fun and hang out as freinds, No clicky fashion groups or not liking someone because of what there wear or where they put there feet in a footjam. I love it there and ill be going back. Get yourself out there as soon as possible!
